On the 22nd March 2025, the final of the Mid Kent Cup was played between Canterbury GC, the winners of the Guilford Trophy 2024, and Wildernesse GC, the winners of the Perman Shield at Littlestone GC.
On a day of benign conditions, there was always going to be some quality golf played and the spectators that attended were not disappointed.
The morning foursomes looked to be going the way of Wildernesse but Canterbury rallied late on with all four foursome matches going to the 18th hole and Canterbury taking a 2½ to 1½ point lead into the 8 afternoons single matches.
With the captains selecting their order the afternoon saw some intriguing pairings.
In the very first match, both clubs came out strong with Levi Johnson and Danny Jones being paired against each other. Danny came out with all guns blazing with 2 eagles in the first five holes and deservedly took the turn 2 up. He then increased his lead by one more before Levi sparked into life and won three holes in a row to take the tie all square again going down the 18th. Their match ending all square.
One pairing must have had the biggest age gap of the day with 15-year-old Seb Bullock paired against the reigning Kent seniors champion Steve Robson. This match also ended in a tie and Seb is obviously a talent for the future.
On the day Canterbury was too strong for Wildernesse and deservedly ran out winners 7½ to 4½.
Congratulations to Canterbury GC, the scratch champions of Kent.
