Canterbury Golf Club and Pedham Place Golf Centre were the venues for the Kent Golf and England Golf WHS and Course Rating Presentations earlier this week. Three sessions were held on 11th and 12th February to accommodate some 92 attendees from 41 clubs in Kent. The presentations were attended by Club Managers/Secretaries as well as Handicap Committee members, Club Competition Secretaries and Club members and they provided the ideal forum for attendees to ask questions and seek advice which extended to ‘one to one’ assistance on key areas of every day handicap administration.
Mike Greener, Regional Handicapping and Course Rating Co-ordinator (Midlands) and Stuart Mitchell, Regional Handicapping and Course Rating Co-ordinator (South) were ably assisted by Allison Boozer, Club and County Support Officer, all three being from England Golf, provided a well received recap of the World Handicap System. The workshops allowed them the opportunity to run through the functionality of areas of the WHS Platform including various reports that are available as well as giving insight into handicap reviews, Soft and Hard Caps, handicap adjustments, and topics such as handicap ‘manipulation’ and acceptable formats of play for handicapping purposes. Mike and Stuart also highlighted the England Golf WHS ‘Widget’ - an incredibly useful online tool for WHS FAQ.
A big thanks to Mike Greener, Stuart Mitchell, and Allison Boozer as well as Janice Hazeldine (Regional Handicap Advisor) and Mark Ward (Lead Course Rater for Kent) both of whom are volunteers who also kindly assisted attendees with queries. Thanks also to Hannah Eves, Assistant County Secretary and Rachael Walsh, County Officer Administrator who ensured the smooth running of all sessions, and a big thank you to the members and teams at both Canterbury Golf Club and Pedham Place Golf Centre for allowing us to hold the two day events at their clubs and their continued support of the County.
