Women Seniors' League match v Surrey report

Date published: 23 Jul 2024

For our final league match of the season, we played a strong Surrey team on the West course at Sundridge Park. All the visiting team had lower handicaps than their Kent opponents, so we knew it would require some good play for us to get the win we needed to still stand a chance of winning the league.

The weather was overcast with a strong wind that needed to be carefully judged amidst the tree-lined fairways. Our top 3 matches were all very close as they got to the last 7 holes, with many reports of birdies and even a couple of chip-ins for eagles. Fortunately, all our players showed their mettle over the last few holes with some excellent play to win all 3 matches. With only one more win needed for a win, our 5th player did it on the 14th green and we could celebrate our victory.

Sussex remain undefeated, so we can only hope they slip up in one of their last matches to give us a chance to retain the league title. However, we are assured of 2nd place, whatever the other results.

Our thanks go to Sundridge Park for looking after us well, presenting the course in great condition, and providing a delicious meal.
