Doxford Foursomes report

Date published: 4 Jul 2024

It was a bright but unseasonably chilly day at Cherry Lodge Golf Club for the 44 women partaking in the 2024 Doxford Foursomes. After early morning tea and pastries they set out on their 18 holes, with 9 more to follow after lunch.

With the course in prime condition, there was some terrific scoring with the Ashford pair of Sue Canney and Pauline Pfeffer blazing a trail with 44 points. Just one behind were Sharon Kent and Jill Oliver (Dartford), and Caroline Gregory and Shela Maine-Wyncoll (Sundridge Park), with a further 3 pairs within touching distance on 40 points.

The good play continued in the afternoon and, with the joint best score of 22, the Dartford pairing of Sharon and Jill amassed an unbeatable total of 65 points. Sue and Pauline followed up their 44 with a very creditable 19 to take the runners-up spot with a combined score of 63. Whilst Sue and Pauline took the morning trophies with their 44 points, the no-more-than-one-prize rule meant that the best 18 prize went to Caroline and Shela, with Catherine Hinds (Canterbury) and Christine Ross (Sundridge Park) coming second. Best 9 holes was won by Bassey Dunbar and Anne-Marie Forrester (Sundridge Park) with an impressive 22, with Lydia Hoare and Karen Taylor coming second with 20.

Thank you to our hosts, Cherry Lodge, for their warm welcome and hospitality – especially considering they were acting as a polling station on the same day! And a special mention to Club Captain, Martin, for acting as a starter and assisting with the presentation. A most enjoyable day with lots of friendship, laughter, and good golf.
