Hever Golf Ladies Captain raises over £3700 for local charity with cycling & golf challenge!

Date published: 27 Jun 2024

On Monday 17th June, Hever Castle Golf Club Ladies Captain, Carolyn Swan (57), undertook an epic fundraising challenge for local charity Mental Health Resource, which saw her cycle between 18 golf courses, covering 72 miles and playing 18 holes of golf, all in a single day.

The grandmother of 5 has so far raised over £3700 for the Tunbridge Wells based charity, which provides residents across West Kent with free mental health support for as long as is needed, wellbeing tools, and the opportunity to connect with others.

Carolyn, who was supported by husband Michael throughout the day, teed off at the 1st hole at Hever Golf Club at 5am and finished on 18th at the second course of Hever, 15 hours later. Other courses visited on the day included: Villa Golf, Sweetwoods, Royal Ashdown Old Course, Lingfield Park, Godstone, Knole Park, and Nizels.

Carolyn said, “As captain, I was looking for a challenge to support my fundraising efforts for Mental Health Resource in Tunbridge Wells and my husband came up with one suggestion to combine both of my passions, never thinking I would do it! I called his bluff, and he became my caddie on the day. So many people suffer from mental health issues, and the subject is still very taboo, especially in men. I am hoping to raise awareness and get people talking and donating to this worthwhile cause”.

Fundraising and Marketing Manager Jen Williams said, “We are simply blown away by what Carolyn has achieved and the amount she has raised! It’s only with community support, such as this, that our charity can continue to provide vital support for West Kent’s most isolated residents.”
