Men's Amateur Championship day 2 report

Date published: 1 Jun 2024

Thankfully, there was no rain on day two of the Men’s Amateur at Knole Park Golf Club, but the wind was still gusting strongly enough to give our 16 remaining golfers a serious test.

Quick out of the blocks was Liam Burns (Chislehurst), who toppled the number one seed, Scott Antoun (Wildernesse), by a score of 5&4. There was further bad news for the Antouns as brother Jake went down 4&2 to Jake Potter (Chelsfield Lakes). Second seed Connor Bell (Royal Blackheath) won 5&3 against Danny O’Reilly (North Foreland), but Danny’s clubmate, Jack Swift, progressed courtesy of a 3&2 victory over Abe Bignell (Rochester & Cobham Park). Jordan Hall (Wrotham Heath) showed some excellent form against Lucas Dennison (Rochester & Cobham Park) to run out a 5&4 winner, and Sundridge Park player, Lennon Hill, had an equally impressive win over Alfie Hickman (Langley Park). The Wildernesse pair of Danny Jones and Charlie Hickling had mixed fortunes, with Danny prevailing over the home player, Dom Driver, by a narrow margin of 2 holes, and Charlie going down by 5&4 to Lee Carew (Chelsfield Lakes).

In the quarter finals, Liam Burns had a struggle on his hands against an in-form Jack Swift and went down fighting by a score of 2&1, and Jordan Hall continued his impressive run by beating Lennon Hill on the eighteenth after a closely fought match. In the bottom half of the draw, there was nothing but good news for the two Chelsfield Lakes players with Jake Potter overcoming Connor Bell by the score of 4&3, and Lee Carew claiming a memorable victory over Danny Jones on the final hole.

Congratulations to our four semi-finalists – Jack Swift, Jordan Hall, Jake Potter, and Lee Carew – on reaching day three, and we look forward to some fiercely contested games on Sunday.
