Men's Amateur Championship day 1 report

Date published: 31 May 2024

A full field of 72 assembled at Knole Park for the first day of the 2024 Kent Men’s Amateur Championship where the strict par 70 layout would prove an extremely tough challenge in absolutely brutal conditions.

Leading the way with a very impressive 36-hole total of 145 (+5) was Scott Antoun (Wildernesse), two shots clear of both Connor Bell (Royal Blackheath) and defending Champion, Danny Jones (Wildernesse). The cut for the top 16 fell at 151 (+11) with one of the tournament favourites, Liam Burns (Chislehurst), claiming the last spot on countback at the expense of the unfortunate Finn Lord (Royal St. George’s) and William Partner (Sene Valley).

Round of the day belonged to Dom Driver (Knole Park) who shot a fabulous 69 in the afternoon to climb up the rankings and get himself into the match play stages. The other qualifiers were Lucas Dennison and Abe Bignell (both Rochester & Cobham Park), Alfie Hickman (Langley Park), Charlie Hickling and Jake Antoun (both Wildernesse), Jake Potter and Lee Carew (both Chelsfield Lakes), Jack Swift and Danny O’Reilly (both North Foreland), Lennon Hill (Sundridge Park), and Jordan Hall (Wrotham Heath).

Well done to everyone for getting through a tough day and we look forward to some exciting matches over the weekend.
