Kent Future (East) report

Date published: 31 May 2024

The rain rained, the barbecue had to move inside, and the computer system went bang – just another day in Kent Junior golf! We kept up our impressive run of miserable weather at the second Futures event of 2024 at Stonelees GC, near Sandwich. Playing two loops of the 9-hole Heights course, our young players did well to finish the round and come in (mostly) with smiles on their faces.

In the 13-20 handicap category, Caleb Twyman (Prince’s) kept his good form going to claim another victory, just ahead of Noah Norman (West Malling) and Baden Brown (Bearsted).

In the 21-34 section, the spoils went to Imogen Kennard (West Malling), with George Hammond (Redlibbets) and home player Mia Ellul, coming second and third respectively. For those yet to gain their handicaps, Xavier Coyne was the best of the day.

Nearest the pin on the 8th went to Isaac Derby (Kings Hill) with Jake Screene (Royal Cinque Ports) taking the prize with a terrific shot on the 13th.

Our thanks go to our wonderful volunteers – Sandy, Tim, Tom, and Greg – for helping the youngsters round, and a big thank you to Suzannah and her team at Stonelees for their excellent hospitality. Let’s hope when we visit you again, we can have the barbecue outdoors!

The next leg of the Futures is at Eltham Warren on 26th July.
