The first Race to St. George’s Qualifier of 2024 took place at North Foreland, and for once this year, the weather was relatively kind. A bright and sunny morning greeted our 46 entrants, and the early starters wasted no time in posting some impressive scores.
The best gross score of the day was 75 by Arthur Saunders (Littlestone), one shot ahead of both Tommy Hulance (Dartford) and Charlie Gunning (Prince’s). As the day progressed, the wind increased, and those in the bottom half of the draw had a tough job on their hands.
But this didn’t stop Harvey Collins (Eltham Warren) from winning the nett prize with an excellent 68. Just behind was local player Luke Hopson with a nett 70, with Michael Haywood (Rochester & Cobham Park) completing the top three on 71.
Our thanks go to North Foreland for their generous hospitality; as always, it is a club that is a joy to visit
The next leg of the Race to St. George’s is at Langley Park on 29 May where another full field will do battle for the precious Order of Merit points.
