Winter Fourball Knockout 2025/26 Division A Rules

Winter Fourball Format
Fourball Better Ball tournament comprising a "Round Robin" group stage followed by Knockout tournament.
Players must have a maximum Handicaps Index of 12.0 at date of entries..
Pairs do not have to be members of the same club.
All matches to be played Monday to Friday.
Matches to be played Home and Away at all stages up to, but not including, the Final.

It is hoped that the home player's club will allow the visiting players courtesy of the course for the purposes of the match. If courtesy is not allowed, players will be expected to bear the cost of the green fee for the match in equal shares. The visiting player has no right to a practice round, unless that facility is granted by the home player's club – the visiting player shall be solely responsible for any practice round green fee.

The handicap allowance will be the 90% (nine tenths) of the difference between Course Handicaps from the lowest player.

Shots to be given and received in any match should be calculated using the mixed tee calculator published by England Golf, inserting the slope rating, course rating and par of the tee set being used and the handicap indices of the four players in that match (or, if applicable, the maximum handicap index for the competition). https://www.englandgolf.org/resource-detail/2024-whs-update-resources

During the course of the competition, if a player's Handicap Index increases to above 12.0, she may remain in the Competition but must use the Handicap Index of 12.0 when determining Course Handicap.

The winning team in each Round Robin group will proceed to the knockout stage.

Walkovers
No walkovers are to be given at any stage of the competition unless there are extreme circumstances. Giving walkovers distorts the results of the group placing. If there are extreme circumstances and neither player in the team is able to play any one match, the appropriate winning points will be awarded to the opponents with a match score of 6 and 5. A team that gives a walkover without extreme circumstances may be excluded from the competition in the following year. If a team has to withdraw before they have played any matches in their group, no points will be awarded.

Replacements
Replacements are not allowed once a pair has played a match.

Round Robin Stage
Contact
Each team to make contact and offer home dates to the other teams in their group, within 21 days of the date of the initial draw. At the time of contact, at least 4 dates, spread over a minimum of 4 weeks, must be offered. Should a team fail to make contact, within 21 days of the date of the initial draw, the opposing team may claim home advantage for both legs of the match, but at the time of contact must offer at least 4 dates spread over a minimum of 4 weeks.
Results
In the Round Robin stage points are awarded as follows:- 4 points for an away win, 3 points for a home win 2 points for an away draw and 1 point for a home draw.
In the round robin stage, if 2 teams are tied on points at the top of their group after all matches have been completed, the results of the matches between those 2 teams will decide the winner. Note, a win for example 3 & 2, is better than a win 3 &1. If there is still a tie, then the aggregate number of matches then holes won in all their other matches will decide.

Knockout Stage
Contact
Each team to make contact and offer, within 7 days of the draw, at least 4 dates for the home match, spread over a minimum of 2 weeks. Should a team fail to make contact, within 7 days, the opposing team may claim home advantage for both legs of the match.
Results
In the knockout stage, if, at the end of the second leg, the results of the home and away matches are identical, the players should proceed to play sudden death in order to obtain a result. Note, a win for example 3 & 2, is better than a win 3 &1.

Caddies: Caddies are only permitted when both the course to be played is open and no trolleys allowed.
